THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When the scrutiny of the papers for the Youth Congress organizational election is over, 13 people are in the fray for the post of state president. Rahul Mamkootathill, the official candidate of Group A, and Abin Varkey, the representative of Group I, are the main rivals.
Three people who have come forward against the official decision of Group A, addressing themselves as Oommen Chandy followers, three women and three Scheduled Tribes are also in the competition. Jas Nalil Pothan's application which was filed on his own, was rejected on scrutiny. It was rejected because his name is not in the high performer list as per the recognized criteria of the organization. The High Performer List is the list released by the national leadership to contest for the position of state president. There were 23 people in this list.
One of the contestants will become president. Nine persons from the remainder shall become Vice-Presidents on the basis of votes received and reservations. According to the change made this time, the three people who get the most votes will be called by the national leadership to Delhi and the final winner will be announced.
Membership distribution and voting will happen from the 28th of this month to the 28th of July. To cast vote, one have to pay Rs. 50 and become a member.
The Youth Congress is headed for an exciting fight. For some time, the A group under the leadership of the State Youth Congress has had a clear upper hand. Alleging that the official leadership does not include the real A group, the opposition faction claims that it will crack the dominance of the leadership. State Congress leadership and AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal have decided not to openly support any faction in the contest.
Each person has six votes for the posts of State President, General Secretary, District President, District General Secretary, Block President and constituency President.
