KOCHI: India's first 'School of Seniors', which teaches everything from languages to rocket science to people over 60, has opened in Kochi. The temporary class is at the House of Providence in Ernakulam Kacheripadi, where the elderly are accommodated. The are students, who are inmates here, in the first batch. The school will soon move to the campus. .

The idea is from the Sports and Management Research Institute, a voluntary organisation. All who wish will be admitted. The aim is to impart new knowledge to avoid the isolation of the elderly. There will be a uniform. The school bus will introduced soon. One year's fee is to be paid jointly by the learners. But the fee has not been finalized.

The work is based on the 'Protein' antiaging intervention program to raise the standard of aging. The design was by the institute's sports management and sports psychology experts BT Sijin, Mridula B Pai and Nimra Zakir Hussain.

From language to research

There are many subjects of study like language, art, science, games, senior internship, research etc. Classes will be conducted by expert teachers. Second year will have more subjects. Psychologists, nutritionists, beauticians, fashion designers and financial planners can also help.
