KAYAMKULAM: Nikhil Thomas, arrested in the fake degree certificate case, said that he slept in Kozhikode bus stand for three days and that no one had helped him. However, the police have not believed this. A team led by Haripad circle inspector V S Shyamlal will examine the CCTV visuals of the bus stand.

He left home with Rs 5000. When he had Rs 250 left, took a ticket for Kottarakkara on Kozhikode-Thiruvananthapuram low floor bus. Took a ticket to Kottarakkara as there was no stop in Adoor. His plan was to surrender at the police station there. The police have not believed his statement that he threw the mobile phone in the creek before going into hiding. The CCTV visuals near Karipuzha canal in Kayamkulam town is being checked to confirm it. In the coming days, evidence will be collected from MSM College, Kerala University and the institution in Ernakulam where the fake certificate was fabricated.

Nikhil is the accused in the case of stabbing a KSU activist while he was a degree student at MSM College. A section of the party tried to shun Nikhil. It gained momentum after he failed for B.Com. Nikhil testified that he bought the fake degree certificate to overcome this and reach a higher post in the party. His father gave Rs 2 lakh. The amount was transferred to Abin Raj's mother's account.
