KOZHIKODE: The passenger who tried to smuggle gold with his family through Karipur airport and the gang who came to rob the gold were caught after a clever move by the police.
Mustafa, a native of Malappuram Kodinhi, arrived at Karipur Airport with gold worth Rs 67 lakh from the UAE. A seven-member group arrived to kidnap Mustafa and his family, who had bypassed the customs and brought the gold out. However, the police came to know about the robbery plan when Rasheed, a native of Kanhangad, was seen suspiciously at the arrival gate of the airport and was taken into custody.
Rasheed was informed about the carrier Mustafa by Samir, Shakir who are from Kozhikode and Kanhangad resident Sadiq. All of them are working in Dubai. Along with Rasheed, a six-member team from Wayanad also arrived at the airport. Mustafa, who came out with the gold, and Rasheed, who was part of the robbery gang, were caught by the police, and the five-member group left the place. They were arrested by the police at Vythiri in Wayanad. The Kasaragod native was arrested from Kanhangad. The group had planned to intercept Mustafa's vehicle on his way to his home at a deserted place and kidnap him with his family and the gold.
