NEW DELHI: The Muslim Personal Law Board held a midnight meeting after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that a single civil code was essential. The board's decision is to oppose Modi's stance on the Civil Code issue.

The meeting of the Muslim Law Board was held online. The meeting lasted for three hours and discussed the legal aspects of the Uniform Civil Code. The board then decided to inform their stand before the Law Commission. The reasons for opposing the Uniform Civil Code shall be explained in the document submitted to the commission.

If one member of the family has one rule and another has another, the house will not prosper. Similarly, Modi had asked the other day how the country can move forward with two types of systems.

‘Constitution guarantees equal rights to all. The Supreme Court had also asked to bring a uniform civil code. Some parties are opposing the uniform civil code in the name of vote bank politics. Those accusing BJP of anti-Muslim what did they do for them? If they had love for them, the Muslim brothers would not have been behind in education and employment. They would not have lived a miserable life. Some parties aiming corruption and commission live for vote bank politics. Nepotism is a danger to the progress of the country,’ he said.

The National Law Commission had earlier sought the opinions and suggestions of people and religious organizations over the Uniform Civil Code. This was followed by the Prime Minister's statement.
