KODAKARA: A retired DySP, who pawned fake gold ornaments, has been taken into custody. He pledged the gold and received money. The Kodakara police took Vijayan of Chalakudy into custody from his house last afternoon. The action was on the complaint of the officials of Kodakara Farmers Cooperative Bank.
Vijayan accepted Rs 5,48,000 after pawning 144.5 grams of fake gold from the Co-operative Bank. Meanwhile, he renewed the mortgage twice. The copper ornaments were covered with a light gold plate so as not to easily identify the fake ones. The fraud came to the attention of the bank during a routine examination. They informed the police and Vijayan was taken into custody.
