NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court agreed to consider the plea seeking to stop tranquilizing Arikomban, on July 6. A bench comprising Justices A S Bopanna and P K Mishra opined that till then nothing will happen and that the elephants are strong.
An organization called 'Walking Eye Foundation for Animal Advocacy' filed the plea in the Supreme Court for Arikomban. Advocates Deepak Prakash and Divyangana Malik, who appeared for the organization, pointed in the court that its health condition is bad and therefore the plea should be considered urgently. The court later informed to consider the plea on July 6.
The health condition of the elephant tranquilized many times is bad. The elephant has injuries in several parts of its body. Arikomban is not comfortable to the place where presently housed. This is seriously affecting the elephant's health. In this case, the plea requested that Arikomban should not be tranquilized further.
The plea directed to ensure immediate treatment for Arikomban and a report should be sought from the governments regarding its present health status. The plea demanded that an expert committee be formed to study conservation of elephant habitats.
