MUMBAI: Due to the heavy rains that started on Tuesday morning and continued on Wednesday, there was heavy waterlogging in many places in the city of Mumbai. It is reported that the busy Andheri subway had to be closed. Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said that a 38-year-old man died after a tree fell in Malad during heavy rains. Although the rain was heavy, local train traffic was not affected much.
Andheri subway had to be closed due to water rising to a height of one and a half to two feet. In some places, the BEST buses had to be diverted. Since Tuesday morning, there have been 26 incidents of falling trees blocking traffic, around 15 short circuits, and five houses partially destroyed. Mumbai city received 104 mm of rain on Tuesday alone. Apart from Mumbai, the rain also caused waterlogging and traffic jams in Thane. A 36-year-old woman was injured after the house collapsed here. Mumbai and Thane are on orange alert due to rain. The Meteorological Department has warned of more rain in Mumbai.
