WASHINGTON: The human remains and debris from the tourist submersible crushed to pieces in an undersea implosion that killed all five people aboard were recovered from the ocean bottom and brought ashore to Canada on Wednesday, the US Coast Guard said. The remains and shattered bits of Titan destroyed while diving to the century-old wreck of the Titanic, were carried to St John's, Newfoundland, north of the accident site, by the Canadian-flagged vessel Horizon Arctic.
Finding the landing frame and rear cover from the wreckage proved crucial. It is hoped that more information will emerge as the available remains are subjected to detailed tests. These remains are crucial to finding the circumstances that led to the collapse of the Titan Sub that went under the Atlantic Ocean with five people.
Oceangate confirmed that all five people on board the submarine died in the accident. British billionaire Hamish Harding, British-born Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Sulaiman, CEO of ocean-going company Stockton Rush and French explorer Paul Henry were on board the submarine.
The US, Canada, France and the UK are jointly investigating the accident that happened on June 18. Officials have stated that the final report will be submitted to the International Maritime Organization.
