THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: “Sir ..muje bachao".. the police officers in Thampanoor station were stunned when a migrant worker intruded into the station in tears. The officers feared a gang attack or theft attempt on him. However, the truth sprinkled smiles and big guffaws inside the station. Birshu Raba(30) a migrant worker won Rs 1 crore, the first price of the fifty-fifty lottery on Wednesday. However, he feared an attack from others including friends, only if they come to know about his stroke of luck.
The police officers consoled him and assured him of all protection until he gets hands on the money. On Monday, near Thampanoor, Birshu bought five lottery tickets of the same series. He returned on Wednesday to check the results and handed over the ticket to the lottery stall owner. The face of the owner turned bright as he shouted about Birshu hitting the jackpot, Rs 1 crore!!
However, joy never appeared on Birshu’s face but rather it was worry. He ran straight to Thampanoor police station with the ticket and asked for protection. The police officer called federal bank authorities and the ticket was handed over. Birshu will get protection from the police until the cash gets transferred to his account. He has been in the capital for eight years working all menial jobs to help his family survive. The police suggested Birshu use money wisely. Birshu plans to return back home after the money reaches his account. He is unmarried.
