MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Make in India project implemented under his leadership. Putin said Make in India project has had a significant impact on India's economy. He said that India is a country that encourages companies to develop and manufacture products locally. Putin praised Modi at a forum organized by Russia's Energy for Strategic Initiative in Moscow. Putin also praised India for creating an effective model to attract foreign investors to the country.
‘My close friend in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Make in India initiative several years ago. It is making a huge impact on the Indian economy. There is nothing wrong in emulating something that works well. So, Russia's domestic products and brands should be promoted using India as an example,' Putin said.
The Make in India project was launched in 2014. The goal is to make India a global manufacturing hub. The project continues to be successful, including in the military and space fields.
Putin came out praising India and Modi right after Union External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's statement praising India-Russia relations. Jaishankar said the relationship between India and Russia is very strong and it would be a mistake to underestimate the relationship between the two countries as if it is only for defense purposes. He added that relations with Russia have changed India's economic situation.
After the war with Ukraine, when Western countries stopped buying oil from Russia, India was ready to buy Russian oil at a low price. It has helped India a lot economically. Russian oil also helped India look beyond petrol and diesel prices when global oil prices soared.
