THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Another death due to rat fever in the state. It has been confirmed that the death of father and son in Ponnani, Malappuram was due to rat fever. A 70-year-old man and his 44-year-old son died of fever on the 24th and 28th. Rat fever was confirmed after the sample test results came out.

Death due to H1N1 virus infection has also been reported in the district.​ The district medical officer had informed that the death of a 13-year-old student in Payinkanniyur near Kuttippuram was confirmed to be due to the H1N1 virus.

Meanwhile, the spread of serious fevers including rat fever and H1N1, despite the lack of continuous rainfall in the state, is raising concern. Death due to fever is also being reported in back-to-back days. Last day, a three-year-old girl had died in Kannur due to fever. Aswa Amina (3), daughter of Muhammad Shafique and Jaseela, living near Mathamangalam Eriam School in Kannur is the one who died. The girl was under treatment for fever for two weeks. She first sought treatment at a private hospital in Payyannur. Later she was shifted to Pariyaram government hospital. She passed there.
