THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPMs stance on UCC come simply from the intention of keeping intact its minority vote bank, said BJP state president K Surendran. He said CPM once favored UCC so the current volte-face is hypocrisy nonetheless.
“ Until 1990, CPM rallied for UCC, they were big supporters of the plan. However, coming now, CPM should curry favor with both the Muslim League and Jamaat-e-Islami to survive politically in the state. CM Pinarayi Vijayan is turning into an apostle of Muslim rights and it won't be late for CPM to turn into a Muslim party” Surendran commented.
Earlier today, Kerala's chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan asked the central government to step down from attempts to bring Uniform Civil Code in the country. In his press release, CM stated "The big hurry to implement UCC comes with the intention to secure a win in the 2024 elections." CM said UCC will see BJPs touted agenda of 'One nation, One culture' program coming into existence.
