NEW DELHI: Monsoon session of parliament begins at the end of July. The central government is minding this date to table a bill on Uniform Civil Code. With protests emanating from all quarters, the bill will be given to the Parliamentary standing committee for seeking views from various stakeholders.

The representative of the law commission will collect reports from various stakeholders on UCC and will submit them to parliament by July 13th. Meanwhile, the parliamentary standing committee has scheduled a meeting on July 3rd to discuss UCC. Political watchers view this as the first step towards implementing the highly debated uniform civil code.

BJP Rajya Sabha member Sushil Kumar Modi headed 30-member committee will discuss the intricacies of the law with experts and the law commission.

The opposition is sure to bring havoc inside parliament, for the interminable violence in Manipur. However, this time, BJP won't resort to passing the bill amidst all the hullabaloo but will seek the opposition's stance on this vital bill.

The Uniform Civil Code is a proposal aimed at replacing personal laws based on religions, customs, and traditions with one common law for everyone, irrespective of religion, caste, creed, sexual orientation, and gender.
