NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit turned salt into injury for BJP leaders of Manipur. Chief minister N Biren Singh thus resorted to the final bid of politicking to divert public attention. The resigning drama was testimony to the same and was all tacky.

By Friday afternoon, N Biren Singh reached the residence of Governor Anusuiya Uikey flaunting his resignation letter. However, supporters and Meitei tribes took the letter from Biren Singh and tore it to shreds establishing further support for the incumbent chief minister. Biren Singh then took to Twitter and gave a one-sentence note of the event that transpired in the hilly north of Manipur. “ At this crucial juncture, I am not resigning.” CM Biren Singh tweeted.

In stark contrast, congress leader Rahul Gandhi who visited Manipur with the message of peace received a hearty welcome from both Kuki and Meitei tribes. Thousands of ladies of Kuki and Meitei tribes formed a cavalcade for the congress leader swaying traditional flags. Rahul along with K C Venugopal visited Moirang in helicopter. He reached Imphal back in the evening and held a discussion with Governor Anusuiya Uikey. Rahul Gandhi flew back to Delhi by early Friday night.
