KOCHI: University Grants Commission (UGC) is all set to approach the Supreme Court to fight the earlier HC decision that favored Priya Varghese in the Kannur University Malayalam assistant professor selection. UGC wants SC to stay further proceedings in the case and not allow Priya Varghese to be appointed as an assistant professor in the university.
Earlier, HC's single bench found Priya Varghese’s appointment as assistant professor violating the norms set by UGC. However, Priya made an appeal back at HC, and a division bench considered the case. The division bench quashed the findings of the single bench and said Priya had all the required merit to be placed as the assistant professor.
UGC is approaching the supreme court to fight the HC division-bench decision. It was only after getting proper suggestions from experts that UGC planned to make it to the apex court with a plea.
