GANDHINAGAR: Social activist Teesta Setalvad sees a setback from Gujarat HC for 'fabrication of evidence' in the infamous 2002 riots. Teesta’s bail plea was dismissed by the court which asked her to immediately surrender before police. Teesta was shielded from arrest these long through the interim bail provided by Supreme Court in 2022.

It was Ahmedabad detection of the crime branch that made an FIR against the social activist for her involvement in incriminating people in the 2002 Gujarat riots. On June 25, 2022, the Gujarat police made the arrest and placed her in custody for seven days. She was later given to judicial custody when the supreme court intervened and granted her interim bail.

A journalist and activist based out of Mumbai and a Padma Shri, Setalvad, 61, is a founding trustee and secretary of the NGO Citizens for Justice and Peace (CJP) established in 2002 in the aftermath of the Gujarat riots.
