LUCKNOW: Four people were arrested following an assassination attempt on Bhim Army chief Chandra Shekhar Azad. Among the arrested are three UP natives, and another from Karnal in Haryana. The assailants opened fire on the car Azad was traveling in while returning after attending a function at a supporter's house in Deoband in UP's Saharanpur district. Chandra Shekhar suffered slight injuries in the attack.
The Haryana registered car in which they were traveling was found parked near their house in Miragpur village. The police detained four people from the house where the car was found due to the suspicion of having a connection with the attackers. They were arrested on the basis of questioning. But the police have not been able to find the gun used in the attack.
Meanwhile, Azad was discharged from the hospital after being treated for his injuries. Azad accused Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of not saying a word about the attack and said that he is protecting criminals and should resign. Wrestlers Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia visited Azad at the hospital. Both demanded that the authorities arrest the attackers immediately.
