KOZHIKODE: A student drowned while bathing in the river with his friends. Locals rescued another student who was swept away by a strong current. The deceased is Sahal (15), son of Chekkiyad native Mahmood. Sahal was a second-year student of Jamia Hashimiyya, Nadapuram. Mamundasseri native Ajmal was rescued by the locals.

The accident took place at around 3 pm today. Sahal and his friends went to the Vishnumangalam River, a part of the Mayyazhi river, to take a bath. While bathing, Sahal and Ajmal were washed away by the strong current. Upon hearing the screams of the children, the locals started the rescue operation. They rescued Ajmal and brought him to the shore. After a long search, they found Sahal and rushed him to the hospital. However, he was declared dead. Ajmal has been shifted to Vadakara Cooperative Hospital after primary treatment.
