THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The construction work of making the national highway six-lane in the state is being completed quickly. 11 toll booths will be opened after the completion of the road construction. Reports said there will be one toll plaza every 50-60 kilometers. The construction of toll plazas has started in some places. There will be two toll booths in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.

The length of national highway 66 in Kerala is 646 km. The present decision is to complete the construction within two years and open the road to full traffic. The national highway authority will collect the toll directly. The present agreement is to reduce the toll fee by 40 % if the amount spent on road construction is returned. The estimated construction cost is Rs 41,000 crore.

The Mukkola-Karode reach, part of national highway 66, was recently opened for traffic. The road from Mukkola to Karode, which shares the border with Tamil Nadu, has been opened in the Kazhakoottam-Karode Bypass. The road with a total length of 16.05 km is the first longest concrete road in the state.
