THRISSUR: An excise officer has been suspended for wrongly arresting Chalakudy beauty parlour owner Sheela Sunny in a fake LSD case. Irinjalakuda excise officer K Sathishan has been suspended from service for the gaffe. The excise commissioner fast-tracked the decision to suspend as evidence was replete against Sathishan, who planted the fake case against Sheela Sunny.

It was on February 27th, that the excise raided Sheela’s beauty parlour in Chalakudy after getting news about drugs stored in the building. The officers boasted about finding 12 LSD stamps from the parlour and made big news out of it. Sheela was crucified and later incarcerated for 72 days. However, on June 29th, the lab report came out contrary to the excise claims. Earlier, excise officers said the seized 'stamps' were worth more than Rs 5000 each.

State women's commission has also taken a suo moto case into the issue. The commission went ahead with the decision after learning about the gross misconduct hurled at an innocent woman in Kerala. The commission has asked the Thrissur district police chief to submit a report within 15 days time.

The crime branch is moving ahead with the case against excise officers while Minister M B Rajesh called Sheela Sunny to console and apologize for the incarceration and shame that happened following the arrest.
