KOLLAM: Patient collapsed and died at the Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital. V Radhakrishnan (56), a resident of Neduvathoor Kurumpaloor, collapsed and died while climbing the stairs to go to the ward. As the hospital staff did not open the ramp, Radhakrishnan could not go to the ward in a wheelchair. The people who were with him tried to take him to the ward through the stairs after which the death happened. Following the incident, two grade two employees were suspended by the superintendent of the hospital.
Radhakrishnan collapsed and died last day. The relatives alleged that the negligence of the staff was the cause of the death. The relatives tried their best to take Radhakrishnan, a lung patient, to the second-floor ward after his injection, but the staff did not bother to open the ramp for him to use the wheelchair. Despite being informed about his health condition, the staff insisted that the ramp can not be opened as the ramp base was in a dangerous condition. Then the relatives carried Radhakrishnan and took him up the stairs but he collapsed before reaching the ward. The relatives informed that the ramp was not opened to take down the body after the death either. After the controversial Vandana Das murder, additional security personnel were deployed at the hospital day and night. However, no one came to help in an emergency, the relatives complained.
At the same time, the action was taken based on the complaint received by the Health Minister pointing out the mistake of the employees. After the investigation, the employees Sharina Bivi and Ajanta were suspended.
