NEW DELHI: The move of Ajit Pawar to split NCP and join the BJP government in Maharashtra with 40 MLAs, came as an unexpected blow to party president Sharad Pawar. After the 2019 assembly elections, Ajit Pawar, who formed the government with the BJP, could not split the NCP and take the MLAs with him. But this time, 40 out of 53 NCP MLAs are with him. Sharad Pawar was dealt a blow when his loyal party working president Praful Patel and leaders including Chhagan Bhujpal went with Ajit Pawar.
In 2019, Sharad Pawar and A Ajith were mentally distant despite giving up the rebel movement and coming back to the NCP. Sharad Pawar announced that he is resigning from the post of party president as he could not tolerate the harassment of Ajit Pawar, who wanted to be the party president. Sharad Pawar's unexpected announcement came as a shock, but after the request of senior leaders, Sharad Pawar withdrew his decision.
Following this, Sharad Pawar announced his daughter Supriya Sule and Praful Patel as working presidents. With this, Ajit Pawar, who was swelling up, started preparing for the rebel movement. Prior to this, the opposition leader resigned. Later he joined the other side and became Deputy Chief Minister along with Fadnavis.
Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar needs the support of 36 MLAs to avoid the threat of disqualification due to defection. Ajit Pawar claims that he currently has the support of 40 MLAs. Meanwhile, everyone is looking forward to Sharad Pawar's next political move.
