THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hibi Eden MP's bill to shift the capital of Kerala from Thiruvananthapuram to Kochi has sparked widespread controversies. A post, with reference to this, on the Facebook page of the Kerala Police went viral.
Kerala Police posted that helmets should be kept on the head so that 'thalasthanam' (capital, thala meaning head) does not change. The post was accompanied by a picture of a man riding a bike in front of the Assembly building with his helmet hanging in his hand.
Hibi Eden introduced a private bill in Parliament last March to shift the capital of Kerala from Thiruvananthapuram to Kochi. The Union Home Ministry had sought the opinion of the state government on the bill, which the government opposed. The Chief Minister has informed the Central Government that the proposal is impractical.
The bill is facing widespread criticism from inside and outside the party. The Congress national leadership has also suggested withdrawing the bill. Congress also demanded that MPs should consult with the party while introducing private bills
