CHALAKUDY: Housewife Sheela Sunny, who was framed in a fake drug case and sent to jail for 72 days, is planning to file a defamation case against the excise officials. Meanwhile, the Excise Commissioner has suspended Excise Inspector K Satheesan, who implicated Sheela Sunny in the fake case. It was concluded that the officer conspired to falsely frame the case.
Sheela said that she was forced to close down the beauty parlour, which started by taking a loan, and that she was going through a severe financial crisis. The relative working in Bengaluru who is suspected of putting fake stamps in Sheela's bag is absconding.
Sheela's lawyer said that she will approach the High Court demanding the cancellation of the FIR. This is based on the forensic report that the recovered stamps were made of paper. Even though the lab report was received a month and a half ago, the officials were hiding the information that Sheela was innocent.
It is indicated that the government will conduct further investigation to know the situation in the case that bought dishonor to the Excise Department. As of now the Crime Branch and Vigilance Wings of Excise are investigating the case. An investigation will also be required to find the conspirators. The police have not yet intervened in the case.
State Human Rights Commission filed a case on its own in the case of Sheela Sunny's jailing. Commission member VK Binakumari asked the Thrissur district police chief to submit a report within 15 days.
Minister with consolation
Excise Minister MB Rajesh consoled Sheela Sunny by phone. The Minister expressed his regret that Sheela had to go to jail for a mistake she did not commit and for the hardship she had to go through. The minister assured that the court will be informed that Sheela is innocent and strict action will be taken against the officials responsible.
