The private bill tabled by Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden was discussed, loathed, and criticized by people, politicians, and all. Hibi even faced scorn from insiders within Congress and was forced to sit isolated in the issue. However, there comes a small bit of history which might have evaded Hibi Eden’s eyes which led to the embarrassment.

On July 1, 1949, the two kingdoms of Travancore and Kochi merged together to form a single state. At this time, it was established that Travancore remains the capital while Kochi gets the High Court. During all these years, there was repeated clamor from political parties and people to shift the High Court to Thiruvananthapuram, but the government resented the move, only to not violate the norms set during the merger of the two kingdoms.

Meanwhile, opposition leader V D Satheeshan asked the media and people to end the debate as Congress has asked Hibi to withdraw his private bill. Minister P Rajeeve, who contested unsuccessfully against Hibi Eden in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections asked not to mention this topic again as it carries less relevance. Thiruvananthapuram was called the 'best' even by a Kochi-settled Satheeshan who said his homeland is developing but not on par to be the capital of Kerala.

Some organizations, recently turned vocal for Ernakulam to be made the new capital of Kerala. They asked the government to take the 200 acres of land in Chalakudy plantation corporation to build a new capital city. It is rumored that MP Hibi Eden adopted this notion to table the private bill in New Delhi.
