NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India has asked the Manipur government to submit a detailed report on the Manipur riots. Meanwhile, the Solicitor General has clarified that the situation in Manipur is calming down. Petitions related to the Manipur riots will be heard next Monday. The Solicitor General said on behalf of the state government that the report would be submitted by Friday.
Irom Sharmila, the Manipuri activist, said that the allegation of BJP's role behind the riots is strong and there should be a proper investigation. It is alleged that the situation in Manipur worsened after the visit of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa. Irom Sharmila also stated that there should be an investigation and demanded that the central government should intervene in this matter without discrimination.
'The Chief Justice of Manipur, who ordered to take a decision on the reservation of the Meiti section, does not know the situation in the state. Acting Chief Justice MV Muralidharan is an outsider but Chief Minister Biren Singh has an understanding of the situation. He should not remain only a Meiti sectarian but should be the chief minister of all sects. He should not be a bystander and should not discriminate in riot control' - Irom Sharmila.
