Kozhikode: The body of the young man who jumped from the Feroke bridge into the Chaliyar River on Sunday has been found. The dead body of Jithin (31) a native of Karuvambaram in Mancheri was found near Mammilikadu, Cheruvannur Mullassery at around 2.24 pm today. The body was shifted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.
Earlier Jithin's wife Varsha was rescued after she jumped into the river. Subsequently, a search was carried out yesterday for Jithin, who was swept away by the strong current. However, the search was soon called off due to bad weather and lack of light. The search started again today.
Jithin and his wife jumped into the river at around 10:30 am yesterday. A passing lorry driver saw the two jump off the bridge, stopped immediately and threw down a rope. Jithin fell into the current but Varsha held on to the rope near the pillar of the bridge. She was rescued by the boatmen in the river. Varsha, who was admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College, is out of danger, police said.
