KOCHI: Hibi Eden MP has come out with an explanation regarding the private bill he introduced in the Lok Sabha seeking to shift the capital of Kerala to Kochi. In his Facebook post, he stated that he introduced the private bill in the Lok Sabha after several people approached him with the demand to shift the capital of Kerala to Ernakulam.

'The private bill is not against any district or people living in that district. I don't think that one should consider another district and its people as enemies in order to protect the development interests of one's own district. No government can fail to give a district the development it deserves,' Hibi Eden wrote.

'The controversies began today with the unusual action of the Union Home Department seeking the Kerala government's opinion on the bill filed in Parliament. Apart from expressing the opinion that the capital of Kerala should not be shifted to Ernakulam, a file with a dubious purpose came out from the Public Administration Department under the Chief Minister. The Kerala government, which has lost face due to many irregularities, ignited debates by seeing this bill as a controversial issue. The ruling party cannot go far with this face veiled,' Hibi Eden added.
