THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There will be no speeding fines until the road cameras are reconfigured to meet the increased speed limit in the state. Minister Antony Raju directed the Motor Vehicles Department not to issue penalty notices if the speed limit is within the increased speed limit after checking the camera in the control rooms. Those who receive notice due to an error will be exempted from the penalty if they file a complaint with the Enforcement RTO.
Kerala Kaumudi had reported yesterday that motorists are in fear of penalty as the AI cameras are not reset. From today, road cameras will be adjusted according to the new speed limit. A meeting to review the one-month operation of AI cameras will be held today under the chairmanship of Minister Antony Raju.
The decision to increase the speed on the state highways in accordance with the central law was taken on the 14th of last month. From July 1, vehicles with up to 9 seats can be driven at a speed of 110 kmph on six-lane national highways, 100 kmph on four-lane highways and 90 kmph on MC roads. The previous speed limit was 90 on the national highway and 85 on the four-lane state highway.
The boards should also be changed as the speed limit changes. A meeting of representatives of the National Highway Authority and local departments will be held tomorrow for this purpose.
