THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police demand further investigation when the date of trial in the assembly ruckus case is yet to be fixed. The crime branch investigating the case filed a plea in this regard at the Thiruvananthapuram Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.
The assembly had witnessed unprecedented scenes on March 13 in 2015 as the LDF members in the opposition tried to prevent Finance Minister K M Mani, who was facing charges in the bar bribery scam, from presenting the state budget. The charge sheet of the crime branch said public property worth Rs 2.20 lakh was destroyed in the clash. The crime branch demanded re-investigation when the court met to pass judgment on the plea filed requesting that the cases in different courts related to the violence be tried together.
Former MLAs Jameela Prakash and K K Lathika approached the court seeking a probe after they were injured amidst the ruckus in the house. The crime branch told the court that they have received 14 wound certificates attested and that it should be investigated in detail.
The crime branch also asked the court to allow filing of the supplementary charge sheet. The court inquired whether the present charge-sheet was being withdrawn and why supplementary charge-sheet was being submitted. The court also asked how the request to file a supplementary charge sheet before the investigation and obtaining new evidence can be allowed.
The prosecutor then informed the court that further investigation is required and only when the evidence is obtained, the supplementary charge sheet will be filed. The court is considering whether to hear the pleas filed by Jameela Prakasam, K K Lathika, the accused and former MLAs K Ajith, K T Jaleel and C K Sadasivan in various courts in connection with the case.
