PATHANAMTHITTA: With rain turning incessant in Kerala, the authorities have opened the shutters of the Maniyar dam in Pathanamthitta. The government decided to open the dam shutters to 220 cm height, to release the excess water collected in the dam. The people residing near Pamba and Kakkad dams have been cautioned about the rains and the possibility of a deluge similar to 2018.
The water level in the Pampa River has risen due to heavy rains. Around 350 families are stranded in Kurumbanmoozhy tribal colony. The Fire Force has prohibited traveling to Gavi. The cow belonging to a man named Shaji died in Niranam after a coconut tree fell on top of it due to strong winds.
For the next five days, the district will witness heavy rainfall; the strongest of this season. Pathanamthitta is on orange alert for the next two days.
Meanwhile, in Kannur, the authorities have banned late-night travel or commuting in fear of heavy rains and landslides.
