THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress looks to spoil CPM’s long-eyed moment to garner clout from the Muslim-dominated terrains of north Kerala. CPM has been busy planning protests and movements to appease minorities over the UCC issue. AICC general secretary K C Venugopal minding this move telephoned many prominent Muslim leaders and assured support in opposing UCC. A meeting will take place in KPCC headquarters today to discuss further protests and movements to thwart CPM attempts in mobilizing support from Muslim camps. Kerala in charge, Tariq Anwar will also take part in the meeting.

Earlier, Muslim powers including Samastha and the Muslim League turned apprehensive about Congress's silence over the UCC implementation plans from the central government.

Meanwhile, congress accused CPM to be be the mirror image of the BJP. The leaders said CPM wants discord within the Muslim factions and is salivating for such a chance to separate religions apart and pounce in for votes. Muslim league is also coming up in deterrence against CPM moves to solidify its presence in the Muslim voter base. League said the party won't join with CPM, unlike the CAA protest time which helped CPM innumerably to cement its presence in the northern belt of Kerala reducing League vote share.

K C Venugopal telephoned Muhammad Jifri Muthukkoya and Kanthapuram A. P. Aboobacker Musliyar to allay tensions over the initial fear of Congress not reacting to UCC notions. For Congress, UCC is simply not any Muslim issue but it also affects orthodox Hindu households.
