THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two deaths have been reported in the ongoing heavy rains in Kerala. One person has gone missing. Several trees were uprooted and houses, vehicles were damaged. Some passengers were injured. Thangamani (53), an Adivasi worker died after a coconut tree fell on her while working in a paddy field at Kanakkanthuruthi Pallaroad in Palakkad's Vadakkancherry.
A driver died after the auto-rickshaw overturned into a flooded stream in Adoor. The deceased has been identified as ex-service man Unnikrishna Kurup (53). CK Usain Kutty, of Karakkutty in Kodiyathur has gone missing in Mukkam's Iruvanhipuzha. A search was conducted for the Bihar native who went missing in the Alappuzha's Thottapalli spillway last day, but no results were found.
Night travel in hilly areas has been restricted in all districts. Excursions to beaches are prohibited. Don't go fishing today and tomorrow. A total of 137 houses were damaged.
In Kottayam, the water level is rising in Meenachal and Manimala rivers. In Pathanamthitta, the water level is also rising in Pamba River. Two shutters of Perunthenaruvi Dam have been opened. A warning has been issued that Maniyar Dam will open.
The water level at Kallupara and Pullakkair stations of Manimala river is at danger level. Orange and yellow alerts have been issued by the Water Commission there.
Head work dam may open in Munnar. Disaster management teams have been deployed in landslide and flood prone districts.
Seventeen houses in Kollam district and fourteen houses in Pathanamthitta were partially destroyed. Kollam - Punalur MEMU was cancelled after tree fell on the track. A well collapsed in Ranni Chungapara.
More than 200 houses were flooded in Ernakulam Njarakkal where rogue seas was severe. More than 750 houses are under water in Alappuzha. The sea attack is severe in Kozhikode. Six houses were destroyed in Tirurangadi and Kondotti taluks.
#Accidents caused by trees
Six trees fell on the national highway between Ernakulam and Aroor, disrupting traffic for hours.
