KOCHI: The High Court has directed that the jail authorities should give adequate consideration to the lawyers who come to meet the inmates regarding cases and provide an opportunity for them to meet.

Justice PV Kunjikrishnan's directive is in a petition filed by Advocate Thushar Nirmal Sarathi against the refusal to sign a visitation permit to buy a goat from Anthony, who is in Poojappura Jail.

Aadu Antony, who is serving a life sentence for stabbing Senior Civil Police Officer Maniyanpilla of Kollam Paripally Police Station, has lost 70 percent of his sight due to the negligence of prison authorities. Thushar had sent a letter to Nirmal Sarathi. The letter also said that he will not be granted parole or get treatment as he has been serving his sentence for eight years. Thushar Nirmal Sarathi filed a petition stating that permission was not given when he went to Poojapura jail to get the signature.

The jail superintendent gave an affidavit in the High Court expressing regret. The lawyer also stated that the complaint has been resolved. The verdict was given after the plea was disposed of.
