CHENNAI: The court acquitted two people arrested in the case of possession of cannabis. The accused in the case, Rajagopal and Nageswara Rao, were acquitted after the police's strange claim that the evidence was eaten by rats.

In 2020, the police arrested both men for the possession of twenty-two kilos of cannabis. A case was registered against both of them and an investigation was conducted. When the case reached the court, the police handed over 50 grams of cannabis seized from the accused. The court was also told that 50 grams have been sent for forensic examination.

When the court asked where the rest of the cannabis was, the investigating team responded that the rat had eaten it. Both were acquitted because the police could not submit the 22 kg of cannabis mentioned in the FIR to the court.
