KOTTAYAM: A car sinks in Vakathanam in Kottayam as the wild rains begin to take their toll. The Kodoor river burst its banks, sinking the car of Rijo, a native of Changanassery. The passengers were rescued by the locals. Seventeen relief camps have been opened in the district. At present, 159 people belonging to 48 families are living in various camps.
Trees were uprooted as the state continues to experience heavy rains. At Dharmadam, a wall that was being built has collapsed. In Kasaragod, the Uppala River's water level is rising. Residents near the coast are urged to exercise caution.
Officials have warned that heavy rains will continue in the state. A red alert has been issued in Idukki and eleven districts are on orange alert. Yellow alerts are issued in Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram.
Power lines were knocked down and trees were uprooted in a sudden whirlwind in Irinjalakuda, Thrissur. Due to the stormy sea at Malappuram, four homes were fully demolished, fifteen homes were partially ruined, and over fifty homes were flooded.
