KANNUR: CPM state secretary M V Govindan said churches in England are put up for sale as devotees, natives of the place, are not going. He said the cost of a church is Rs 6.5 crore and the service of nuns there is like a profession. Govindan shared his England travel experiences after inaugurating the renovated halls of Thaliparambu block panchayat office.
‘As the youngsters in England don’t go to churches, they are put up for sale. A small church costs Rs 6.5 crore. However, people from Kerala go to churches there. The priests there are on strike demanding more salary. The Sikhs bought a church to make it their temple. Malayalees have also bought a church to make it the centre of worship for Sree Narayana Guru,' said M V Govindan.
