crack

THRISSUR: The cracked portion of the Kuthiran National Highway has collapsed again. The area where there was an earlier crack in Vazhukumpara on the Mannuthy - Vadakkencherry National Highway has collapsed again. The part that collapsed is 10 meters long and 1.5 feet deep. If the rain continues like this, there is a possibility that the road will sink to a depth of 30 feet at any moment.

Last week, when the crack first appeared, the contract company sealed the crack with cement and a polythene sheet was spread over it to prevent the road from collapsing. However, the situation has grown more hazardous as a result of the two days of severe rain.

The area leading from the tunnel to the service road has been blocked up with concrete girders after Peechi Police Station House Officer Bibin B Nair, who was informed of the event, arrived at the scene and called the contract company employees. The police are intending to implement quick traffic control in the region as the road is collapsing. When the vehicles coming from the Palakkad side exit the tunnel, they will be sent to the Palakkad-Thrissur track. The risky track will be shut down. With this, vehicles will pass in both directions through a track at a distance of 600 meters.

According to the station house officer, to prevent accidents, plastic barricades will be placed in the middle of the national highway 600 meters away from the danger area. Traffic will then be allowed to resume on the Palakkad-Thrissur track.A notification asking for a temporary suspension of operations has been sent to the workshop, Anganwadi, reading room, and health centre located on the service road beneath the collapsed road. He also added that additional police officers are required to enforce the restrictions.
