THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The female Hanuman monkey (gray langur) who escaped the zoo here has been caught. The monkey, which had been troubling zoo officials for weeks, was captured from German cultural center. The ape was found inside the washroom of the centre.

The monkey escaped the zoo on June 13th. After that, the zoo staff observed the movement of monkey, which was seen in different parts of the city, but could not catch it.

A pair of gray langurs were brought to the zoo from Tirupati Zoo. The newly brought monkey escaped when the cage was opened for a drill ahead of the opening ceremony for visitors. At first, the monkey stayed in the trees of the zoo itself, then escaped the compound was spotted in different parts of the city. The authorities had earlier informed that considering the health condition of the monkey, it will not be captured using a tranquillizer shot.

The monkey stayed in a tree in the public library for days, but went missing yesterday.

Two emus and two lions were newly delivered along with the monkeys. The lions named Leo and Nyla were released into the enclosure today.
