KOCHI: In a shocking incident, a mother was hacked to death by her son in Champakkara, Ernakulam. The deceased is 73-year-old Achamma. Police have taken her son Vinod Abraham into custody. It is reported that Vinod is mentally ill.

It was the neighbours who called the police after hearing the noise inside the flat. Vinod had killed the old woman by the time the police and fire force entered the flat by breaking the door open. The woman's body was later shifted to the hospital.
