THIRUVANANTHAPURAJ: With the government issuing an order to give admission to government-run and private self-financing engineering colleges to those who have not written the entrance, children from other states will also come to study.

At present, those who do not qualify for entrance usually go to the states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. From now on they can study in Kerala. The Department of Higher Education has clarified that the eligibility certificates of foreign children should be checked and authenticated by the techological university. The managements have demanded that in the agreement to give 50 per cent seats in self-financing colleges to the government, the seats for migrant children should also be included. Government sources said no fee hike will be allowed on these seats. But since there are no children in the management seats, which are allowed to charge up to Rs 60,000.

Last year, about 20 percent of merit seats in self-financing colleges were vacant. The allotment, which was currently done by the Entrance Commissioner for half the self-financing seats, will be reduced to 15,618 merit seats from this year. The managements are also demanding that the rank of common entrance exams like JEE should be considered instead of making entrances only for admission to these seats. In the prospectus, admissions from other recognized rank lists, including JEE, were allowed to the vacant seats after spot allotment in 26 government-run self-financing colleges. However, the higher education department said that there is no plan to waive the entrance exam.

Allotment is delayed

Engineering allotment is delayed as the Technologcical University has not completed the process for new courses and renewal of affiliation of existing courses. The entrance rank list was out on June 19th. The entrance commissioner can make the allotment only after getting the seat details in the colleges.
