THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The new DGP Darvesh Saheb has issued a circular stating that responsible officer should personally meet those arriving at the stations. The SHO should also ensure that the service is delivered quickly.
In the absence of the SHO, another person should be assigned to meet the complainants. Complaints should be given a hand receipt. Complaint is cognizable (cognizable offense) or preliminary investigation should be conducted. The name of the investigating officer should be communicated to the complainant. A reply should be given to the complainant on completion of investigation. If the complaint is cognizable, the case should be registered immediately and a copy of the FIR should be given to the complainant free of charge. If the accused have been arrested, the complainant should be informed about it. After completing the investigation and submitting the report, that should also be communicated.
Special treatment should be given to senior citizens, women, children and other disadvantaged groups coming to the station. It is the responsibility of the PRO to bring the complainants before the officials and expedite the process. The PRO shall not under any circumstances directly investigate the complaint or suggest a solution. The SHO should ensure that the cameras at the stations are functional on a daily basis.
When the public contacts the mobile numbers of the police officers, they should be polite. Calls should be accepted except in unavoidable cases. Army personnel should be careful not to involve themselves in crime. Failure to do so will result in action being taken.
