NEW DELHI: The Gujarat High Court will pronounce its judgment on the plea filed by Rahul Gandhi in the defamation case. If the verdict is in favour, Rahul may get reinstated in Parliament.
Rahul Gandhi's disqualification will be extended if he does not get a stay from the court. Rahul Gandhi's only recourse is to approach the Supreme Court. BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi filed the defamation case citing Rahul Gandhi's 2019 speech about how all thieves got the name, Modi.
The Magistrate Court found Rahul guilty and sentenced him to two years imprisonment. Followed by the Lok Sabha Secretariat cancelling Rahul Gandhi's MP position on March 23. He then approached the Surat Sessions Court seeking a stay of the verdict. Subsequently an appeal was filed in the High Court challenging the Surat sessions court order.
