VILLUPURAM: A senior AIADMK leader has been expelled from the party for organising an event in connection with BJP Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai's birthday. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami expelled S Murali, a leader of the party in Villupuram district, for carrying out anti-party activities.

The party was irked by Murali's action of organising an event on Wednesday to hold 39 weddings in connection with K Annamalai's 39th birthday. Annamalai also attended the event. Meanwhile, Annamalai responded that the event was organised by BJP leader and Murali's son Harikrishnan. He said that it is the people who should decide which party should contest against whom. He added that he himself had asked Harikrishnan to invite his father to the event.

A huge rift had developed in the bond between BJP and AIADMK after Annamalai stated that Jayalalitha was a corrupt person. The action against the senior leader comes after this.
