THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A new controversy erupted after six people nominated by the government convened a meeting inside the syndicate hall without the vice-chancellors knowing. It goes against the norm to conduct a meeting without VC chairing the event. The six new nominees for the Kerala university syndicate conducted the meeting to reprimand and seek explanations from faculties who failed students without examining their papers in the distant education center.
The election process to the Senate is still midway in preparation. 14 members from the senate will be included in the syndicate and the government-nominated six people will complete the reformation of the syndicate. According to the rules, the government can nominate six senate members. However, these members went beyond their levels of power and convened a meeting. The rule doesn’t allow staff members to ask for explanations from faculties.
Save University Campaign( SUC) asked the VC to take strict action against the registrar who allowed the illegal meeting to take place.
The SUC alleged the move as devious coming from the government in a bid to take whole control of the university with six senate members.
