THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The rains which had caused fear in the state for the last four days reduced yesterday, but three more people died taking the death toll to 13.
A two-and-a-half-year-old girl fell into a waterlogged area and died in Punnayurkulam, Thrissur. The bodies of Vijeesh, son of Meethala Parambath Bhaskaran in Vadakara, who went missing in Kozhikode's Vadakara Canal, and Sinan, son of Rayaroth Mustafa of Kakot Vayal, who were swept away in Kannur Panur, were also found yesterday.
Athithi, the daughter of Saneesh-Vishwani couple, died after falling into the water in the canal adjacent to the house in Punnayurkulam.
Vijeesh was swept away while fishing in the canal. Sinan was washed away when he was bathing in the river with his friends. The search is on for Usankutty, of Karakutty house in Kozhikode's Mukkam, and Anoop, a native of Koyiland Valiamangad, who are missing.
North Kerala and Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts did not experience heavy rain yesterday. Isolated rain fell in south Kerala.
Meanwhile, the rains continue. On the Kochi-Dhanushkodi road, the traffic was completely blocked due to rock and soil falling on the Munnar Gap Road. Nelliyampathi in Palakkad has been closed for tourists till Sunday due to landslides. Traffic on Kozhikode-Mysore road was blocked due to falling tree in Wayanad's Lakidi. In Kannur, low-lying areas are under water. All the shutters of Pazhassi Dam were opened. In many parts of Kuttanad, the waterlogging has not cleared.
Coastal areas continue to be attacked by sea. A wave height of 4 meters is possible till Saturday. Fishing is not advised in Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts.
