KOTTAYAM: The road from Erattupetta to Vagamon which was inaugurated a month ago by the Public Works Department has developed potholes. The road collapsed when water gushed out from under the tarring after heavy rain. Public Works Department stated that there are no problems with the construction and that the pit will be covered by tiling.

The Public Works Minister personally performed the much-celebrated Erattupetta-Vagamon road's inauguration on the 7th of last month. The road has been damaged at three places in Velathussery. The people are concerned about what will happen if this is the case in the first downpour following the inauguration. It has also been alleged that the officials of the Public Works Department tarred the road without conducting an adequate study.

After the initial road construction contractor broke the terms of the contract, the Uralungal Labor Contract Society took over and finished the construction of the Erattupetta-Vagamon road. The road was upgraded at a cost of Rs.20 crores.
