KOLKATA: 'Traveling Raj Bhavan' hit the road on Saturday to control riots in West Bengal as polling took place in local body elections amid a spate of violence. Several candidates and voters reached out to the Governor with a flood of complaints.

The West Bengal Raj Bhavan once again became the centre of attention when Governor Dr CV Ananda Bose and Raj Bhavan officials came out in full gear at 6 am. A large media contingent also accompanied the governor. Many media reported that this was the first time in history that the Raj Bhavan came out directly for people's safety.

Wherever there was a crowd and a possibility of conflict, the governor stopped the vehicle and listened to the complaints of the people and immediately called the higher officials and gave instructions. With that, the Election Commission, the police and the central forces started to work in a more effective way, the local media reported.
