PATHANAMTHITTA: The lorry carrying food to the relief camp overturned in the flood. The accident happened when the lorry reached the camp in Alamthuruthi Kazhuppil Colony, Thiruvalla. Meanwhile, the coastal residents of AchanKovil River have been worried for days due to heavy rains. The water level in the river has been rising and falling for the last three days. Heavy rains at night cause more concern. With the Disaster Management Authority officials hinting that there is a possibility of a landslide in the forest area, the people living on the riverbanks are scared. Months ago, the river had overflowed due to just one day of rain.
AchanKovil River has flooded seven times in the last two years. Following this, work has been done to increase the depth of the river in some places. The coast has collapsed in many places. The only consolation is that the Forest Department and Aruvappulam Panchayat have installed a river scale to predict the water level in AchanKovil River. The fluctuation of water can be understood by checking the scale.
